Will Young Hits The Bottle After Break-Ups

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

British singer Will Young says he likes to “immerse” himself in alcohol when he breaks-up from a lover.

Will, 29, split from boyfriend Conor in 2007, after two years.

And he dealt with it by hitting the bottle.

Will reveals, “I immerse myself in alcohol and music.

“You can get very lonely, so I’ve had quite a lot of partying but now it’s time to work.”

But Will insists he remains friends dancer Conor, and another ex.

“I respect them and still love what they’re about,” Young tells Seven magazine. “I’m on great terms with both.”

Will’s fourth album, Let It Go, is released on later this month.

Britney Spears Gets A Skinny Makeover In Womanizer Promo Shots

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Britney Spears is virtually unrecognisable in the promo pictures for upcoming single Womanizer.

The singer may have lost weight in preparation for her December comeback tour and album, but it seems that the airbrush has been doing overtime to slim down her figure even further in the new shots.

Dressed in a skin-tight PVC bodysuit and stilletos, Brit has been given an impossibly tiny waist and super-long legs.

Stiil, Britney’s new look signals a return to form for the star, who has largely kept a low profile following her very public meltdown earlier this year.

Zidane: A st Century Portrait

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Follow one of the greatest soccer players of the modern era for a full 90-minute match between Real Madrid and Villareal. Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parenno exquisitely train 17 different 35mm cameras on one of this century’s most creative athletes, Zinedine Zidane. While cameras capture Zidane in “real time,” Gordon and Parenno’s artfully crafted debut feature is anything but a typical sports movie.

Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait is a rigorous and elegant update to the art of portraiture. In today’s media-saturated world, relativity reigns over objectivity, and the division between personal and public realms often blurs. Gordon and Parenno show an awareness of the interconnectivity of all things and develop a subjective portrait of Zidane that seamlessly integrates his physicality, his internal world of memories and sensory perceptions, and his relative place in the media landscape.

In Gordon and Parreno’s film, the soccer field becomes an almost unworldly place, a universe of its own unhinged from any conventional sense of soccer but profoundly integrated with Zidane’s intimate visions and an athlete’s phenomenal performance.

David Gilmour Pays Tribute To Pink Floyd’s Rick Wright

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour has paid tribute to his former band mate, Rick Wright, who died yesterday (September 15th) following a battle with cancer.

“He was such a lovely, gentle, genuine man and will be missed terribly by so many who loved him,” Gilmour wrote on his website.

“And that’s a lot of people. Did he not get the loudest, longest round of applause at the end of every show in 2006?”

It’s not known which form of the disease Wright, who played keyboards in the band, had been battling.

During his career, the keyboardist had a significant influence on the instrumentation of some of Pink Floyd’s classic albums, including ‘Meddle’, ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ and ‘Wish You Were Here’.

Gilmour said he had “never played with anyone quite like [Wright].”

“The blend of his and my voices and our musical telepathy reached their first major flowering in 1971 on ‘Echoes’. In my view all the greatest PF moments are the ones where he is in full flow,” the guitarist said.

He added: “Like Rick, I don’t find it easy to express my feelings in words, but I loved him and will miss him enormously.”

Wright’s last performance with Pink Floyd came during their 2005 reunion at the Live 8 event in London’s Hyde Park.

Gervais Hints At Extras Return

British funnyman Ricky Gervais has hinted he may make more episodes of his hit TV series Extras - because he misses the show so much.

The Office star made two series of the popular BBC comedy show, which featured A-list cameos from Kate Winslet, David Bowie and Orlando Bloom.

And Gervais has fond memories of the show - insisting the series’ pivotal characters were the best he’s ever created.

He tells Britain’s Zoo magazine, “Yes - I miss Extras more than The Office. The Office had to finish when it did, but I think Extras could still go on and on.

“We created better characters in Extras. Andy Millman was more real than David Brent by the end of the show and I loved Maggie Jacobs - she was the best character we’ve come up with.”

New York, Oct. 2 — VH1 brought down the house tonight at
the 5th annual “VH1 Hip Hop Honors” as the best of the best in hip hop
royalty came together for one legendary night to honor the ones who came
before them and transformed the genre into a true cultural phenomenon.

Taped at the Hammerstein Ballroom this evening (Thursday, October 2) in
New York City and hosted by Tracy Morgan, the music and influence of each
of the honorees was recognized through performances by classic artists in
collaboration with today’s hottest new talent. This year, “VH1 Hip Hop
Honors” paid tribute to Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Naughty By Nature, Slick
Rick and Too $hort.

The Cypress Hill tribute kicked off the night with an introduction by
Freddy Rodriguez. Fat Joe, Jim Jones and Gym Class Heroes drove the crowd
insane with the group’s hit songs “The Phuncky Feel One,” “I Ain’t Goin’
Out Like That,” and “Insane In the Membrane.” Cypress Hill lit up the stage
with performances of “DJ Scratch Intro,” “How I Could Just Kill A Man,” and
“(Rock) Superstar.”

Actress Joy Bryant introduced the second tribute of the night, honorees
De La Soul, who took it way back with performances from Estelle, Mos Def,
Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Cee-Lo and EPMD. They tore the roof off with the
group’s biggest hits, “A Roller Skating Jam Named ‘Saturdays,’” “Stakes Is
High,” “Potholes In My Lawn,” and “Ego Trippin.’” Topping off the
performance, De La Soul broke it down true old school style reminding the
crowd that they can still get down, breaking out in a medley of old school
rhymes from “Me, Myself and I” to a remix of “Buddy!”

The show continued on a “slick” note with hits that defined Slick
Rick’s solo career. Legendary rapper MC Lyte kicked off the tribute with
“The Ruler’s Back.” The crowd went crazy when Busta Rhymes and Spliff Star
took the stage performing the “The Show” which brought everyone to their
feet. They led into a true hip hop medley with the legendary Biz Markie and
Ghostface Killah singing “La Di Da Di.” Finally Eve took the stage with her
rendition of the eclectic hip hop chart topper “Mona Lisa.” Slick Rick then
took to the stage performing “Hey Young World” and “Children’s Story.”

Next, in honor of R&B legend Isaac Hayes, a medley of artists took the
stage to salute the icon. Mos Def took the stage first, outfitted in dark
shades, setting it off with the hit theme song from “Shaft.” Next British
sweetheart Estelle performed a remix of “I Love You,” and Cee-Lo kept the
crowd grooving with “The Look of Love.” Next on stage, Scarface dazzled the
crowd with “My Mind Is Playing Tricks On Me.” Closing out this special
tribute was Chuck D with “Black Steel In The Hour of Chaos.”

Hip hop entrepreneur and producer Luke Campbell took the stage to
introduce Too $hort. Luke talked about how he set the stage and paved the
way for Too $hort to become the artist he is today. Also paying homage to
Too $hort, Kid Rock gave a thrilling performance of “Life Is Too Short.”
Lil John got low with “Shake That Monkey” followed by a duet with Bun B of
the electric “Blow the Whistle.” After an intro performance of “The Ghetto”
by Scarface, Too $hort got the crowd on their feet with “Gettin’ It” and
“Money In The Ghetto.”

Bringing the show to an unforgettable end, Wyclef Jean, Juelz Santana
and Big Boi ripped the stage with the all-time favorites, “No Woman No
Cry,” “Everything’s Gonna Be All Right,” and the monster hit “O.P.P.”
Naughty By Nature closed the show as only they could do, performing “Uptown
Anthem” and “Hip Hop Hooray.”

Madonna: ‘I Keep My Hair Long For Guy’

Monday, October 27th, 2008

You wouldn’t think Madonna would be the type to fret about keeping herself all nice and pretty for hubby — especially when she doesn’t like the way it makes her look.

But it sounds like the Material Girl is not quite as independent and free-spirited as she might seem, at least not when it comes to her style.

Madonna, who’s on the road with her Sticky and Sweet tour right now, told Fox News that she’s dying to hack off her shoulder-length blonde locks, but keeps them to make Guy Richie, her husband of nearly eight years, happy.

“I want to have shorter hair,” she told Fox’s Neil Sean, “but I have a husband that loves the long-haired look and well that is just one of the things I do for him.”

Could it be that turning 50 has mellowed Madonna, or is she just trying to show how dedicated she is to Guy, amid the rumors that their marriage is on the rocks?

Either way, this doesn’t sound like the Madge we know and love!

U.K. digital retailer launched in February

LONDON — U.K. online entertainment retailer Play.com has increased its weight in the competitive digital music market, confirming Thursday that it has struck content deals that mean it is now supported by all four major record companies.

PlayDigital launched in February with catalog from EMI Music and a number of independents. Universal, Sony BMG and Warner Music have now signed up, bringing PlayDigital’s total online catalog to more than 3 million DRM-free tracks.

“It was only a matter of time before the other three major labels came on board and we now have an offer to rival that of iTunes, yet in a format that gives the consumer choice and at a more appealing price,” Wendy Snowdon, Head of PlayDigital, said in a statement.

“Artists including Kaiser Chiefs, Keane, Snow Patrol and Razorlight are all now available through PlayDigital,” she added, “and our pricing strategy ensures that we can start to steal even more market share.”

PlayDigital has individual tracks available from 65 pence ($1.13), compared with 79 pence ($1.37) on iTunes in the U.K. PlayDigital is only available to users in the U.K.
